WEEK 122 | September 3, 2023

BEARING WITH THE WEAK

  • Romans 15:1

  • Question 1: Look back through Romans 14. What does Paul mean by strong? What does he mean by weak?

  • Question 2: What do you think it means to be obligated with someone else’s failings? Is that fair? Is that loving?

  • Question 3: How does Christ obligate himself to our failings? How does this empower us to do the same for others?

PLEASING NEIGHBOR

  • Romans 15:2-4

  • Question 1: What do you think is the different between pleasing our neighbor and being a people pleaser?

  • Question 2: Paul says, Christ did not please himself. In other words, he denied himself for our good. What longings, wants, or comforts do you need to deny or sacrifice in order to love your neighbor better?

  • Question 3: How does all this give us hope?

  • Question 1: Paul says God keeps his promises and shows mercy. Which aspect of his character do you need to remember most this week?

  • Question 2: What causes you to lose hope? Why do you trust those things so much?

  • Question 3: What does it look like to be filled with joy and peace, abounding in hope? How is this not just toxic positivity?

  • Romans 15:14-17

  • Question 1: What do Paul’s words and work as an apostle to the Gentiles reveal about the love, power, and grace of God?

  • Question 2: How is the gospel producing more “goodness” in you (what are you becoming)? How is it producing more “knowledge” (what are you learning)? Share how you see the gospel at work in another group member’s life.

  • Question 3: Why is the death and resurrection of Jesus necessary for our sanctification?
