Kids Helping Kids
A few months ago, our church put together a video of encouragement for a group of girls we've never met. They live thousands of miles away in Kenya, part of a mentorship program through our partners at The Humanity Share (THS). Every year, THS hosts a five-day student conference for these girls — and this year, they invited us to be part of it.
We just heard back from them about how it went, and we wanted to share it with you.
“This year's five-day conference brought together students, alumni, THS staff, and guest speakers under the theme "Broken but Beautiful: Finding Strength in Vulnerability." Throughout the week, the girls were encouraged to embrace both their strengths and their struggles while growing in confidence, resilience, and faith. The conference included interactive discussions, health and hygiene sessions, mentorship from THS alumni, vision-setting exercises, spiritual devotions, and one-on-one conversations with mentors. The girls also expressed themselves through drama, dance, music, talent shows, and small group discussions, creating an environment where they could encourage one another and build lasting friendships. One of the most meaningful aspects of the week was hearing from alumni who shared their own journeys after secondary school. Their stories gave the girls practical encouragement and a tangible picture of what is possible through perseverance, education, and trusting God.”
THS also shared with us that, another major highlight of the conference was watching the girls' excitement as they viewed the video we had sent of our children reciting Psalm 121:8. We were so grateful we could be part of their conference from thousands of miles away, and the girls were encouraged to hear the enthusiasm of young hearts reciting God’s word.
This Sunday, we will be sharing these videos with the kids and praying for the three girls our church is supporting this year: Faith, Deborah, and Joliet. If your kids would like to give towards the Humanity Share, they can give this Sunday at the Check in table.
